Apparently Mac Has A Bigger Bouncer At The Door

These days it seems as if we’re never safe from anything. We have to not only lock our doors at night, but set the $200+ security system to feel secure in our homes. For PC users it seems to take atleast 3 or more pieces of anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anit-malware software to feel secure. In one report by Liam Tung, Mac users can rest safely knowing that their computers are safe, for now atleast.

5.5 million is a number you generally want to see floating somewhere in your bank account . Unfortunately for PC users it’s the number of malicious content (viruses, spyware etc..) reported to be haunting PC’s across the nation. Now take 5.5. million and divide it by 275 million and you’ll get the number of malicious content plaguing Mac users. For anyone not so good at math, that number is 2. The 2 forms of content actually turned out to be program downloads custom fitted with a trojan inside. This number might leave Mac users with a warm and snuggly feeling, but Tung reports that the number might rise in the next year.

Is It Really Lonely At The Top?

Turning on the news without seeing something about our failing economy is about near impossible these days. Apple, unlike the overall economy is all smiles after they posted their first fiscal quarter earnings.

While just about every electronics company is smiling after the holidays, Apple’s grin is even bigger as they have posted improvement is nearly every single one of their product lines. Posting a net quarter profit of $1.58 billion compared to last year’s $1 billion, it’s safe to say Apple is going strong into the new year. Apple shipped over 2 million mac computers this year, representing an impressive 44% unit growth. Mac desktops represented the largest unit growth while iPods posted a 5% unit growth, and 2,315,00 iPhones were sold in the quarter.

MacBook Air

The fashion world has the size “0″ dress, and now the notebook world has the MacBook Air. Being unveiled “officially” at MacWorld 2008 this year the MacBook Air is making a buzz among Mac users. Sporting a razor thin design compared to other notebooks, the “Air” is 0.76 inches (maximum) and 0.16 inches (minimum) in height.

Apple can now boast that it has the thinnest notebook on the market, but how does it look under the hood? It’s not a spec behemoth but it definitely holds its own compared to other notebooks especially for its’ size.

Specs
13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display
1.6 GHz or 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB Virtual Memory
80GB 1.8-inch hard drive

It’s not all good news for the MacBook Air though as it has also been announced there will be no user-replaceable battery. So you will still have to ship your notebook back to Apple, pay $129 for the battery, and wait while they change it.
