Although I have been very happy making this site and I am still a dedicated Mac user (and always will be) - I no longer have the time to maintain the site as you have probably noticed from the lack of posts lately and I have consequently had to put it up for sale.
I hope one of you will be interested in taking it forward - you can get all the details from the auction site.
I thought it would be interesting to try the new Walmart Video Download service and compare it with iTunes. As a Mac user - I am not welcomed at all - I was greeted by a message that Mac is not supported and a link to download IE.
Thankfully I still have a Windows machine - so I went to the site using a compliant machine and after selecting the movie of choice I registered and downloaded the Walmart Video application. I then named my machine so is is authenticated to play the video.
I was then taken to the payment part - which was very smooth. Once my payment was accepted I got a message that the video download would start after 15 minutes?! After roughly 20 minutes the video started to download and once it was complete - I tried what I thought would be the final step and pressed play:
As you can see the “Media Usage Rights Acquisition” thinks for a moment and then decides to show me the Walmart Video Download home-page instead of either an error message or granting me the right to watch the movie as it should be doing.
I have been looking for support and how to contact them but so far no luck - so in essence I have now paid for a video that I am unable to watch (oh and by the way - they add tax on the video price they list on the site - but only at the time of the payment of course).
This morning I went back to try again but this I was met with:
Compare that with the iTunes experience - click to buy, download immediately and play.
I hope iTunes will soon be adding the rest of the studios so we can get on with the digital age the way it was intended - and quite frankly I would not mind paying different prices for productions from different studios (just give us the right to choose) - as long as it works.

Having used Windows for sometimes up to 14 hours a day the past 20+ years for business and pleasure, it never occurred to me to switch to a Mac until I saw the iMac 24†for the first time back in October 2006 - I just had to have it. Admittedly the fact that the new Mac’s have Intel processors and hence able to run Windows natively gave me the added comfort of being able to change my mind and just have a really pretty machine running Windows.
After having used Windows for many years - you orst of get used to re-booting, re-installing, hanging applications - not to mention viruses - in fact you hardly even get upset about it anymore, you just re-boot and wait for the time it takes to get back to what you were working on (if it is still there that is).
With Mac it is a different experience altogether - you actually get to spend nearly all your time using the computer for what it was intended to be used for - and not just trying to figure out why something is not working. In short - it just feels right. The reason I said “nearly” is because I tend to get carried away trying out new things on my Mac all the time including exploring the bundled applications such as Photo Booth, iCal, iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, Garage Band and of course iTunes which I knew from my Windows days.
On this site I intend to share some of the things that I have experienced switching to Mac from Windows and how it is impacting on my life moving forward - considering I use a computer heavily every day. I will also be covering Mac related stories that I find news worthy as well as tips, hints and tricks that I come across.
