If you are like me – I keep forgetting what date it is – on your Mac menu you can see the time and the week day which is useful, but to get the date you have to click the day/time or keep your iCal running in the Dock which will then show the current date (but only if it is running – which may not be convenient for everyone).
You can, however, quite easily fix this problem so that getting the date is just as easy as moving your eyeballs toward to the top right corner of your screen.

Here is how to do it:
1. System Properties > International > Formats
2. Customize Dates > Show > Full
3. Mark the fields you want to use (drag and drop from Date Elements)
4. Copy them using ⌘+c then click cancel to go back
5. Customize Times > show Medium
6. ⌘+v to paste the date format
( this only works if you select “Medium”)
Now you can modify the format as you like – you and insert ex and @ between daet and time or anything else you want.
example

– once you click OK and close “International” – you are all set.
Note: If you see the 3 letter week day abbreviation in front of your new format – just go to Date & Time > Clock and untick the “show the day of the week”

This just doesn’t even work… I think you left out a step or four…. How exactly do you get the day and the month in there??? Are you dragging it from somewhere?
Hi Tom, Sorry about that – the formating bit was left out by mistake – thanks for letting me know. The tip has been updated – let me know if this works for you.
